Yesterday the children had a look at magnets, and looked around the classroom to find out which materials were magnetic. They came to the conclusion that metal objects were magnetic, although not all metal objects seemed to work! We discussed how the metal objects that were magnetic seemed to be iron or steel, and the children conducted their own follow-up investigations into magnetism. This included seeing how many metal objects their magnet could pull and how far away the magnets could be to pull a metal object towards them.
The children also discovered that magnets can work through materials like card. They drew mazes and pulled paperclips through them using the magnets.
Overall, a fantastic display of enquiry on the children's parts.
The Pond is finished! Thank you to the PTFA and Richard Balfour-Lynne for their generous donations so far. We will also be using the money from the Co-op Scheme towards this project.
