Woolly Acorns and Beetles

Submitted by tawnyowl on Monday, June 25, 2018 - 14:42

Field Maple enjoyed making Woolly Acorns today. Both groups played in the stream. They enjoyed fire striking after finding some Poplar seed 'fluff' and wondering if it would light. We then moved on to fairy blankets (cotton wool). One or two children then continued to develop their skills with a scout knife. Henry found an amazing beetle with a purple stripe. We think it may be a Violet Ground Beetle. They do not fly and are nocturnal, hiding under logs and stones during the day. They eat slugs, snails, worms and insects.
