This week I received a lovely letter from the Shakespeare for schools festival following Year 5's performance of the Tempest at The Trinity Theatre on 22/11/17.
"I would like to offer sincere thanks and congratulations to Goudhurst and Kilndown CE Primary School for your wonderful production of The Tempest as part of the 2017 Shakespeare Schools Festival. Students and teachers alike have put hard work, imagination, determination and passion into this production, and were a credit to the school. I'd like to take this opportunity to highlight just a few fantastic moments that you should be especially proud of.
What an atmospheric and creative Tempest. I loved the use of live sound by the actors, as well as the soundtrack, which combined brilliantly. Your use of ensemble throughout was fantastic, creating landscapes from just your bodies and beautiful choral moments like becoming the rain of the storm. It was fantastic having you all onstage throughout, which created an intimate playing space and it was lovely having that focus on the centre of the action.
Physically you were brilliant, opening out and sharing the text with the audience. I also loved the physical language of the magic in the play.
You had brilliant performance energy which was so punchy, and you picked up your cues showing you were really listening to each other. Technically, you had fantastic vocal energy, projecting your voices with clarity.
You brought out the humour within this play beautifully and I loved your physical comedy choices, particularly your comic timing, your use of slapstick comedy and the modern asides. Your student technicians also worked hard over the day, helping to cue and run the show and tech - Kudzai, William and Thomas. The whole company was focussed and hardworking throughout.
Thank you for a magical, mysterious and marvellous Tempest."
